Hydrant flushing

The Village tries to flush hydrants twice throughout the year. We place brief reminders in the local newspapers with the date when the flushing will occur.  Flushing removes any iron deposits from the water main that cause orange water. It also helps move fresh water to the far reaches of the water system. These two things help improve customer satisfaction.
Things to remember when flushing is taking place:

Watch for flushing dates in your local paper, usually the months of April and October
Look for the orange "Hydrant Flushing" signs that are placed in your neighborhood
Check the color of the water prior to doing white laundry
If unsure about water color, do laundry after 3:30 P.M. (quitting time) when flushing is taking place in the Village
